Biathlon is a traditional winter sport combining cross-country skiing and small-rifle shooting. There is also a summer biathlon where cross-country skiing is replaced by roller-skating, cross-country skiing or cycling. The third, somewhat less well-known sector is the skiarc, or archery biathlon, where small-caliber firing is replaced by bow shooting.
